Overview

Vehicles that have paint with a matte finish are tricky but also visually impressive. In a recent car detailing project, our team was presented with a sleek matte BMW M3 station wagon. The owner of the car required suitable paint protection that would not only improve the car’s finish but also keep it protected from the elements while driving around Mornington Peninsula. Additionally, the owner also wanted to preserve the BMW’s frozen paint look.

Like all matte cars, ordinary paint protection isn’t enough for the BMW station wagon. The matte look needed to be preserved with a satin finish to improve its value should the owner decide to sell it in the future.

Challenges

Detailing the BMW M3 station wagon and its frozen car paint came with the following challenges:

  • The vehicle had a matte factory paint finish, which is typically more difficult to maintain than regular paint. As such, it needed a film that’s easy to maintain
  • The station wagon had a longer body, requiring more paint protection films to be fitted. This was a meticulous process that required accurate measurements, fitting, and understanding of the car’s specifications.

Solution

As car detailing specialists in Mornington Peninsula, our team identified the right paint protection for the vehicle immediately - the XPEL STEALTH™.

The STEALTH ™ paint protection by XPEL is a superior film made for matte vehicles. This high-performance clear-coated aliphatic polyurethane film comes with a self-adhesive satin - making it perfect for vehicles that have paint with a matte finish.

Our team took 2 weeks to install the film, taking great care to clean the vehicle, cut up the film pieces using our Graphtec plotting machine, and meticulously fit it throughout the front and rear of the vehicle.

With the film, the BMW station wagon can now enjoy the following benefits:

  • Superior protection: The film protects the vehicles from harmful stone chips and abrasion that could damage its surface
  • Self-healing: The film eliminates fine scratches and swirl marks over time when exposed to heat.
  • Easy to maintain: While flat finishes can be difficult to maintain, the new film allows the BMW owner to wash and dry the car without worrying about damaging its surface.
  • Sleek matte look: The new film perfectly matches the car’s matte exterior, giving it a new car look that’ll last for years.

Maintaining frozen car paint can be difficult, but the right paint protection makes all the difference.
